Mercer Bears right fielder Ty Dalley knows a thing or two about hitting home runs.
In fact, most of them land right on the berm beyond the right field wall at OrthoGeorgia Park.
But last week on the road at Kennesaw State, Ty hit another homer -- that was just a little sweeter than the rest.
"That was interesting," head coach Craig Gibson said. "When that ball went out of the park, I told the guys in the dugout, 'I think he's ready to hit one to that Waffle House.'"
Yes, a Waffle House -- located just beyond the right field fence in Kennesaw.
Eat at your own risk.
"I've hit some good ones but when I hit it I was like, 'man that could have a chance,' and then it blew up on social media," Dalley said. "Everyone was like, 'get the NIL with Waffle House,' so here we are."
Luckily, no damage was done to the fine breakfast establishment.
But come on, hitting one that far has got to be worth something, right?
"I'm sitting here waiting," Dalley said. "I threw it out there on Twitter and maybe we can get something rolling like a free breakfast every day or something. Something will work."
Not to worry -- Ty already has the order ready to go.
"All-Star Special, eggs bacon and hash browns," Dalley said. "That's the go-to."
That's a meal fit for Mercer's all-star himself, and sponsor deal or not, the team that led the Southern Conference in home runs last year plans on doing it all over again.
"Oh yeah, it's huge," Dalley said. "Every guy on our team can hit home runs like that, I just happened to be the one to do it that night. It could've happened to any of our guys. Pretty cool to see our guys getting recognized like that."
"Ty's very special, one of the best I've ever coached here," Gibson said. "He's very talented, he's his worst critic. He's very hard on himself but that's what great players do."
Dalley and the Bears resume action against Florida A&M on Wednesday night at OrthoGeorgia Park.
